Lord of the Scrabble

Have you ever wanted to play Scrabble AND Lord of the Rings at the SAME TIME??????

WELL NOW YOU CAN!!!!

Today we had to combine two different board games and make a fully functional, new one, without the use of any preexisting rules from either game.

The two games we had were Scrabble Junior and Lord of the Rings "The Confrontation".

The board was set up like this:

There is a "light" team and a "dark" team. The pieces for the teams are set up facing away from the opposing player, so they don't know where certain pieces of yours are.

There is a hierarchy to the pieces, which is as follows:

DARK TEAM:

  • Warg
  • Orcs
  • Cave Troll
  • Shelob
  • Black Rider
  • Flying Nazgul
  • Witch King
  • Balrog
  • Saruman

LIGHT TEAM:

  • Pippin
  • Merry
  • Sam
  • Frodo
  • Boromir
  • Gimli
  • Aragorn
  • Legolas
  • Gandalf

Green: 2 HP
Orange: 3 HP
Blue: 4 HP

The blue squares placed on the board (the scrabble pieces) MUST be placed letter side down. The player will land on these throughout the game, and depending on what type of letter they land on, they will either get a point or lose a health point.

Starting the Game:

Players play 1 round of rock paper scissors to decide who goes first. The first move for each player can only be forward, and it has to be the exact two squares in front of the piece you are moving, no diagonal moves are allowed in this game. Later the player can decide to move sideways, but must move two spaces at a time.

Getting Points:

Landing on a consonant will grant you a point (triangle piece) which you accumulate throughout the game.

Losing Health:

Landing on a vowel will take away 1 hp from a character. If a character lands on two vowels, it will take 2 HP. If the character has ONLY 2 HP, it is then taken out of the game and placed in the graveyard. This piece can no longer be played. If a player lands on a bomb and a consonant, and has only 1 HP left, the piece will be removed, but the player will also gain a point for the consonant.

To keep track of how many HP a character has, they should write a tally down next to the characters name on a piece of paper. This also helps keeping track of the hierarchy.

Player Confrontation:

Players may engage in "combat"- to enter combat, the players must have their pieces facing each other (not the faces of the pieces, but standing in front of each other). The player that has the piece with the higher hierarchy will win, regardless of how many HP it has left. The player who loses eliminates their piece and places it into the graveyard.

Winning the Game:

The game ends when there are no longer any triangle pieces to collect. The players then count their triangle pieces and whoever has the most wins. The game can also end if one player runs out of pieces to play on the board. The latter is less likely to happen.
